Get Paid to Talk to a Tree
Here at Trees.com, we’re all about finding ways to help your garden grow.
That’s why we’re seeking green thumbs to help us prove the theory that plants grow better when people talk to them, as two-thirds of tree-talkers believe.
For a period of one year, the right candidates will care for two trees in exactly the same way except one—you will talk to one tree daily, while ignoring the other.
In exchange for your time and record-keeping, we will pay you $48,000 for the year. Plus, you will get to keep both trees at the end of the experiment!
How does this work?
Trees.com will send you two money trees, a beautiful, low-maintenance tree that does well in most indoor settings and is safe for pets.
You will be responsible for caring for the trees in exactly the same way, in terms of watering, pruning, fertilizing, and making sure they receive enough sunlight.
However, you will choose one tree to be your “chat tree.” This will be the tree that you speak to every day. We ask that you speak to your chat tree for at least five minutes each day (although feel free to talk more if you’re inclined). You can talk about whatever you want, but your voice should be consistent in tone and volume. Also, make sure the other tree isn’t close enough to hear you speaking.
For this one-year period, you will keep a digital journal on social media (Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok), tracking the growth, color, and overall health of both trees. This journal should be updated daily, documenting any changes in the appearances and conditions of the trees and taking a photo of them. You must use photos and videos to keep track of how the trees grow and change as well. Your notes should focus on the differences between the tree you are speaking to and the one you are not.
Trees.com will have access to this journal throughout the year to confirm that you are updating it regularly and to track the experiment’s progress. Please note that your photos and videos may be used on the Trees.com site.
What are we looking for?
We will hire individuals to be our “Tree Talkers.” The ideal candidates are 18 years or older and live in the U.S. Candidates must have an active Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok account and be proficient in using the platform. We are looking for people who are self-motivated, reliable, have strong writing and evaluation skills, and love trees. This is a one-year commitment; only those who are available for the next full calendar year should apply (a few vacations are okay, as long as it’s well documented).
Gardening experience is not necessary, but you must be able to follow basic instructions for caring for your trees and provide the right conditions for growing money trees, including:
- Access to indirect sunlight or fluorescent light
- Consistent temperatures of 65℉ to 75℉, with humidity of 50% or higher
- Room to grow – money trees can reach 6 feet when grown indoors
- Consistent watering
What will you get in return?
As compensation, each individual will receive $48,000 paid in 12 monthly installments of $4,000. We will also provide plant care kits, including pots, soil, a watering can, pruning shears, fertilizer and all-natural insecticidal spray.
At the end of the year, the trees are yours to keep after we run some tests on them.
